About Me

Personal Side

Ah! So I never really know what to write about myself. I don't find myself all that interesting. But here goes, bullet style:

  • I'm a mom of two young children. As I write this, they are 9 and 7. They are mostly awesome. Like 97% of the time. But they definitely have their moments.
    • Eli is in 4th grade and Zoe is in 1st. Seriously. How did that happen?!
  • I'm a wife to an amazing husband who I have very few (legitimate) complaints about.
  • I'm an animal lover. All kinds. My husband and I had to put down our first dog (our first together dog, I should say) in September 2016, and it was a hard time all around. Worst thing I've ever done as a pet owner, that's for sure. We went on to bring an 8 week puppy in March 2018 and she is fantabulous. Her name is Stella. If you ask the kids, her full name is Stella Bella Bean Artois Artos Graves. She is fairly freaking awesome.
  • I love to read. See the Reader Profile for more info.
  • I *love* tv and moves. Thank goodness for streaming. We recently (ish) made the jump from satellite so this television season has been an adjustment for me, but I've been figuring it out. I should probably find a local meeting. ;)
  • I collect bookmarks.
  • I *love* quotes.
  • I hate pineapple.
Professional Side

I've been working in a library since 2004. I say "a library" but it's the same library. I started in Outreach and had the privilege of driving our Bookmobile - with a pillow under my bum! After graduating with a bachelors in Elementary Education, I struggled finding a permanent job in that field. Six months later, I was offered the position of Children's Department Manager (May 2006). After roughly another six months, I was promoted to Youth Services Director. I'm in a rare position of loving my job. I get to work with kids nearly every day and I offer five story times a week to the young kids of the community as well as two book clubs to school aged kids. I'm also in charge of maintaining our collection, which is a feat with constant budgetary constraints. Don't get me wrong - it's not all sunshine and roses. But overall? I couldn't be happier with what I"m doing. It took some time, but I'm now on my way to getting my Master's in Library Science!
